Our PE Curriculum

Intent

At our school, we believe that Physical Education plays a vital role in supporting pupils’ overall development and well-being. Through our PE curriculum, we aim to provide a broad and balanced programme that nurtures both physical and personal growth.

We focus on developing key areas that will benefit pupils throughout their lives:

  • Improving fitness – Building strength, stamina, and coordination through a variety of activities.
  • Developing social skills and collaboration – Encouraging teamwork, communication, and respect for others.
  • Building resilience – Helping pupils to persevere, overcome challenges, and develop a positive mindset.
  • Promoting mental and physical well-being – Supporting healthy lifestyles and boosting confidence through active participation.
  • Enhancing motor skills – Improving agility, balance, and control to support overall physical development.
  • Fostering a love of sport and physical activity – Making PE enjoyable and accessible so pupils feel motivated to stay active.
  • Encouraging participation in extra-curricular sport – Inspiring pupils to take part in clubs and activities both in and out of school.
  • Providing a variety of sports and activities – Giving pupils the opportunity to experience different disciplines, from traditional team games to individual challenges.

Our goal is to ensure every child feels confident, engaged, and excited about physical activity, developing skills and habits that will last a lifetime.

Implementation

PE at our school is delivered through a combination of our PPA (Planning, Preparation and Assessment) offer and lessons taught by the class teacher. This approach ensures that pupils receive high-quality, consistent provision across the year.

Our carefully planned annual overview of PE activities allows children to experience a wide variety of sports and physical challenges. From traditional team games to individual activities, pupils are given opportunities to explore different disciplines, helping them discover what they enjoy and develop a lifelong love of being active.

Through this provision, children build key fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, throwing, and catching, alongside developing motor skills like balance, coordination, and agility. These skills form the foundation for participation in a wide range of sports and support overall physical development.

In addition to this, we are proud to offer specialist sports coaching to further enrich our PE curriculum. Professional coaches deliver high-quality lessons in Football, Box Fit, and Karate, providing pupils with exciting opportunities to learn new skills and stay active. These sports are also available as after-school clubs, encouraging children to continue their physical development and enjoy sport beyond the school day.

PE and Sport Premium

The PE and Sport Premium is a government initiative designed to improve the quality of physical education and sport in primary schools. It provides additional funding to help schools enhance their PE provision, encourage active lifestyles, and increase opportunities for pupils to participate in a wide range of sports and physical activities. The aim is to ensure all children develop the skills, confidence, and enjoyment needed to lead healthy, active lives.

During academic year 2024-2025 Fishponds CE Primary School received £18,970.00 in Sport Premium Funding.
