Computing

Intent

The school aims to provide a rich, forward‑thinking computing curriculum that prepares pupils for life in an increasingly digital world. The intent is to:

Inspire and enthuse pupils about the possibilities of an ever‑changing digital landscape.

Develop strong digital literacy, computer science and information technology knowledge and skills that will support pupils throughout their education and future careers.

Ensure all pupils can access and use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly.

Equip pupils with the confidence to speak out if something online feels unsafe or uncomfortable.

Promote the values of being sharp, alert, secure, kind and brave when working online, in line with Google’s Internet Legends.

Build pupils’ awareness of their digital footprint and the long‑term impact of their actions online.

Embed both school values and British values throughout the computing curriculum.

Provide meaningful opportunities for pupils to use technology for communication, collaboration, enquiry, creativity and critical thinking.

Demonstrate the positive impact technology can have on learning, both in school and beyond.

Strengthen cross‑curricular links so that computing skills are used and applied widely.

Support all pupils in using technology confidently and appropriately in school and at home.

Implementation

Online safety is woven throughout the curriculum, with pupils taught how to use technology responsibly and confidently in every year group.

Computing is taught weekly through the school’s PPA offer, ensuring consistent, high‑quality provision for all year groups.

Technology is embedded across the wider curriculum so pupils can continue developing their computing skills in various contexts.

Online safety is taught during every computing session to reinforce safe and responsible digital behaviour

E‑safety learning objectives are mapped across the year and may be delivered through discrete lessons or integrated into everyday classroom practice - The school follows Google’s Internet Legends pillars: sharp, alert, secure, kind and brave.

The computing curriculum is organised into three core strands: Information Technology, Computer Science and Digital Literacy. Each year group covers an even balance of these strands, with skills taught progressively in line with national curriculum expectations.

Oracy and discussion are central to learning, with explicit teaching of vocabulary and clear identification of key terminology in planning.

A structured skills progression ensures increasing challenge and raised expectations year on year.

Assessment is teacher‑led with oversight and quality assurance from the subject leader.

Learning to Learn behaviours are embedded throughout the curriculum.

Online learning platforms are promoted across the school to encourage continued learning at home.

Impact

The computing curriculum helps pupils become confident, capable and responsible users of technology. Its impact is seen through:

Secure understanding of online safety, with pupils using the Internet Legends principles (sharp, alert, secure, kind and brave) to guide their online behaviour.

Strong skills in information technology, computer science and digital literacy, enabling pupils to build on prior learning and apply new knowledge effectively.

Ability to use technology purposefully across the curriculum, supporting learning, creativity and communication in a range of subjects.

Improved problem‑solving and critical thinking, particularly through coding, debugging and logical reasoning tasks.

Positive attitudes towards technology, recognising both its benefits and the importance of using it safely.

Growing confidence in technical vocabulary, allowing pupils to discuss and explain computing concepts clearly.

High engagement and curiosity, with pupils demonstrating enthusiasm for computing and digital learning.

Strong preparation for future learning, giving pupils the digital foundations needed for secondary school and beyond.
