Our Vision

Our Resource Base forms an integral part of the school’s ethos and commitment to inclusive education. The provision aims to ensure that every pupil develops the skills, confidence and resilience needed to become a caring and well‑prepared individual ready for the next stage of their journey.

The Resource Base supports pupils in recognising and celebrating their individual strengths while developing strategies to help them overcome challenges. Through targeted support within the base, the mainstream classroom and the wider school community, pupils are encouraged to build self‑esteem and grow as independent learners.

High‑quality teaching and meaningful learning experiences underpin the work of the Resource Base. The provision is designed to foster ambition, promote positive outcomes and equip pupils with the knowledge and skills needed for future success.

Curriculum

We provide a framework that covers the National Curriculum, broken into half termly themes connecting different areas of learning. This allows for a seamless transition between subjects with the aim of reducing anxiety.  Lessons are further broken down with tasks having a visible and predictable structure.  Visual timetables and a ‘first and then’ approach along with brain breaks, social stories and pre-teaching prepares pupils for transitions between subjects.

A broad and balanced curriculum that builds on pupils’ prior learning is achieved through quality first teaching. Lessons are delivered in a range of learning styles to suit individual needs. We make good use of outdoor space with a forest schools garden.

Additionally, pupils have time to work on their individual EHCP outcomes. Ongoing assessments of pupils allows for personalised learning to take place.

Admissions

The Resource Base is a 8 place specialist provision for pupils in primary education. It is expected that all pupils admitted to the Resource Base shall have a primary need of Communication and Interaction and an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Bristol City Council expectation is that pupil places in our Resource Base will have particular needs in line with the definitions of the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
