School Vision and Values

Our Vision

Our Academy vision is ‘Love as our foundation; wisdom as our guide’

As a Church of England Primary School, we underpin all that we do from the teachings found in the Bible. The Bible passage that we have chosen to underpin all that we do is 1 Corinthians 13 v 4-7.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

We have chosen this passage because it gives a really clear explanation about what ‘love’ is and how we should treat one another. The historical context of the passage also means a lot to us. This passage forms part of a letter written by St Paul in AD 50 - 58, he was writing to some of the first Christians to explain how to live in well in the city of Corinth. Corinth was a city of many cultures, languages and belief systems, much like our own community of Fishponds. This passage is still so relevant today!  We believe that if every one of us lived our lives by the principles of this text, the world would be a much better place! We have adjusted our values in order to align with the passage.

As a school, our aim is to teach the children in our care to love one another, develop skills that enable positive relationships to blossom. We maintain hope and believe that all children can be successful in learning the skills and knowledge needed to flourish in life. We will continue to persevere and believe that we can make a positive difference to all who come through the doors of our school.

Our Values

At Fishponds CE Primary School, our values lie at the heart of everything we do. Inspired by the message found in 1 Corinthians 13:4–7, they shape daily life across our school community. These values influence how everyone treats one another, how pupils learn together and the choices made by staff, pupils and families alike. They are displayed throughout the school as a continual reminder of the ethos we strive to live by each day.

Although our values have their roots in the Christian tradition, they are shared in ways that are fully inclusive and meaningful for every member of our diverse school family. We believe that the principles of patience, kindness, honesty, trust and perseverance are universal, helping children to grow not only academically but also personally, socially and spiritually.

Living Out Our Values

Each term, the whole school focuses on one of our core values. Pupils explore the meaning of that value through:

  • Weekly reflective questions that encourage thoughtful discussion
  • Stories and songs in collective worship
  • Classroom activities that help pupils apply the value to real-life situations
  • Opportunities to notice and celebrate how the value is demonstrated around the school

This shared focus helps pupils understand that values are not abstract ideas but qualities that guide actions, relationships and decision making.

Every Friday, pupils are recognised for showing our school values through their behaviour, attitude to learning and interactions with others. These celebrations highlight the many ways pupils embody our ethos – from supporting a friend, showing patience during a challenge, demonstrating honesty or persevering with a tricky task.

By honouring these moments, we show pupils that living out our values makes a real difference to our school community. The weekly celebrations also reinforce that our values are more than words on a page or posters on a wall – they are actions, choices and habits that help everyone thrive.

Building a Caring and Connected Community

Our commitment to these values helps create a positive, caring and respectful environment where everyone feels seen, supported and encouraged. Whether in the classroom, on the playground or beyond the school gates, we aim to nurture pupils who:

  • Show kindness and respect
  • Act with integrity
  • Think of others
  • Work together
  • Keep trying, even when things are difficult

These qualities equip pupils not only for learning but for life, fostering confidence, resilience and a strong sense of belonging.
